Date Nights
I firmly believe that if you want a relationship to flourish, not just last, you need to put time and energy into it. That may look different for everyone’s relationship, but you still have to put in the work. I think one of the easiest ways to put in time is by regular date nights. Nights where you and your partner get out of the house, away from your daily chores and just spend time together.
I know this concept isn’t new, I just wanted to share a couple ideas that we do that can be inexpensive, fun, and a great way to check in on each other and your relationship.
The first one we do all the time, we hop on our bikes and stroll around town. Sometimes we will have a destination in mind (maybe a place for dinner or happy hour) sometimes we just cruise. We like being active and we like seeing how our neighborhood and town are changing. I have biked around in shorts and I have biked around in dresses, so it really doesn’t matter where the destination is, if we can bike there we usually do.
A couple ideas to keep the costs down for a bike date can be picking a destination that is running a special. Happy hour, absolutely. Deals on opened bottles of wine or special appetizers, yes please! I think one of the most cost effective bike date ideas is to pack your own picnic. Mike and I have a picnic set in a backpack. It has plates, silverware, cups, a place to hold a wine bottle, a waterproof blanket and a little cooler section. We either make something from our kitchen or we order something to pick up, pack a couple drinks, and away we go!
Another cost effective date idea that Mike and I have done has been to take pictures of each other. Usually in our house, it is Mike taking pictures of me, but it could definitely go both ways. I will put on a fun, cute, or sexy outfit, we turn some good music on and set the lights to whatever color we want, and then we start goofing off. I am not a model and it usually takes me a little bit to get into the mood, so we flirt and tease each other while we get things set up and in between shots. Our sessions may not last long, but we get time to connect and this gives us both time to practice being with the camera.
One of the most fun ways Mike and I connect is through sex, so sometimes we will just have a sexy night. We might practice Shibari or bondage, we might watch some porn, play with a new toy, or invite someone else over for a playdate. However it works out, we spend time being intimate and connecting with each other without spending much money at all.
Don’t forget to talk to your partner during these times too. If you need conversation starters, check out my blog on Monthly Check In, it has some questions to keep connected to your partner and a pulse on your relationship.
