Wow, it’s been a long time since I have been on here sharing my thoughts, feelings, and tips for you all, hasn’t it? Did you miss me? I have missed you!!
Did you also notice a few changes on my site? Like my new name, KoruLove?
A lot has changed for me over the past couple of months and today I am excited to share some of those changes with you!
Let’s start with the new name KoruLove. When I first heard the word Koru, it really spoke to me. I first heard it when I was traveling in New Zealand for our honeymoon years ago. I would see the traditional spiral shape in most of the stores we stopped in. I first saw the simplicity and beauty of the koru as the pieces I saw were usually made out of abalone shells and made into necklaces or earrings. Then I started to see it everywhere we went in New Zealand. It was on tattoos, art pieces, signs, we just kept seeing it everywhere.
Flash forward a few years later, I was working out at my CrossFit gym and a newsletter came out telling us the meaning of the word Koru. Koru is a word from the New Zealand indigenous people, the Maori. It symbolize the unfurling (or unwinding) of a silver fern. It represents a new beginning, peace, tranquility. The round edges, represent constant movement, always coming back to a center point.
This spoke volumes to me. That is exactly what I wanted my practice to be about. New beginnings moving towards peace and tranquility in your life and while you are constantly moving and growing, you continue to come back to your center point…you.
The second part of my new name came pretty easily, Love. I love love. My favorite shapes are hearts and stars. My favorite holiday is Valentine’s Day (July 4 is a close second though!). I love when I see bachelorette parties out celebrating. I don’t think there has been a wedding I have attended for the past 20 years that I haven’t cried. Socks with hearts on them? I have to have them. I find heart shapes in nature all the time. There is just something about heart and love that get me everytime.
When I found out KoruLove was an available domain name, I just had to have it.
Now that I am looking back at it, the timing was pretty interesting as the same time I found KoruLove, I also felt like my non-monogamy coaching was not the right fit for me. I feel like I will always have insight into non-monogamy, but it just wasn’t bringing me the joy that I wanted. I took this time to figure out what felt more inline with who I am.
I want to help people become better. I want to help make this world a better place. There is so much sadness, loneliness, angery, and separation in this world right now, that I just don’t understand. Why are we all pulling away from each other when now, more than ever, should we be more united?
Over the past few years, I feel women are losing ground in our fight for equality. Why, in 2024, do I not have the right to decide what I want to do with my body? Why can’t my salary be closer to a man’s in the same role? Why do women only get a few months off when they have a baby? This misalignment started to stand out to me more and more.
Then it came to me. I am really good at building people up and showing them that they are valued and loved and to actually believe in themselves and love themselves. Why not use my superpowers to help women fall back in love with themselves? To find confidence and learn how to better communicate their needs so they can become leaders in changing the world to a place where we can love each other and come back together. Why not empower women to use their inate sense of softness, love, and community to support and encourage not only other women out there but also the men as well?
That is when I knew what direction my coaching was going to take. After some education, reading, and a few courses, I now call myself a non-monogamous, women’s empowerment coach. I am moving away from one on one coaching and putting together courses and challenges so I can help more women.
You may be thinking, that’s silly to limit your target audience to women only and I have thought long and hard about this. In all honesty, I feel everyone can benefit from a little dose of improved self-confidence or self-love at some point in time, but I need to start somewhere. So if you are a man reading this, I hope this isn’t the last piece you read from me because my teachings are for everyone.
I will continue to discuss non-monogamous relationships. I will continue to teach you ways to improve your life. At this time, I am unsure how many blogs I will be posting, but they will keep coming! Like most of my coaching journey, I am going to move at a pace that feels right to me. I am going to try things out and see how they feel. I am going to continue to grow and change and you will see it here.
So welcome to KoruLove!! The place to go to learn about empowering yourself and those around you. The place where we start to fix the discord that is everywhere in this world. Where you can learn to live the life you want without falling to the pressures of societal norms. Where you can come back to yourself! I hope you enjoy!
