Connection Rituals

Do you have any rituals that you and your partner have to stay connected to one other? Mike and I do. When one of us leaves the house, we say goodbye with a quick kiss. When we come home, we greet each other with a kiss. We make it a point to say good morning to each other. At night, we will have a light touch of hand holding or a gentle hand on an arm or leg until we fall asleep.

None of these things take a lot of time or energy, but these little actions keep us connected and help ground us. I believe that these little rituals helped keep us happily married for over 11 years.

If you do a quick search for why relationships fail, loss of connection, growing apart, or lack of intimacy will usually be on the list. We are using these brief moments to fight against all of that. With each little kiss, we are choosing to make each other and our relationship a priority. With each “good morning”, we are telling each other that we see them and want happiness for them for the day.

Connection rituals are an easy way to have some time with your partner, even in the most hectic of times. It can help bring you together and remind you that you are on the same team.
