In my first blog, I talked about my self–limiting beliefs that kept me from starting my coaching career until now. Today, I want to tell you about those beliefs and how I got over them.
At first, I didn’t even realize there was a problem. I thought I was too busy to work on my new career. I thought our travels were taking all my time and I couldn’t find the time or energy to put in the work. I felt exhausted most of the time. When I did try to work on my stuff, I felt lost and was easily distracted. My attention span was as short as my puppy Kylo’s. I would sit down to write something, then, remember I had to switch over laundry or I needed something to eat. As I did research, I found myself scrolling through TikTok or Instagram instead.
When friends would ask me how my coaching was going, I felt embarrassed and ashamed that I hadn’t made any progress. Mike was starting to become annoyed that I was wasting time that we could have been spending together or working on projects. I started to withdraw and began to lose self–confidence. I knew something was off.
Then, I turned back to the person who has been there for me and always knew what I wanted, myself.
I began to focus more on my meditation and asked myself, do I really want to be a coach? The answer was a resounding YES!
I started talking to my friends and confided in them about my feelings of self-doubt and loss of self-confidence. One friend in particular questioned why the “Queen of Self–Confidence” (his term, not mine) lost her self–confidence? That statement me dig deeper into myself. He had a point, confidence is one of my strong suits, why was it wavering now?
I journaled about all the reasons why I wanted to be a coach. I visualized my life as a coach and would compare it to my life if I didn’t go down this path.
I took a course on self–confidence (keep an eye out for my course to be coming out soon!) and gave myself some compassion.
Then, slowly my attitude changed. I got over my fears and reached out for help in building my website. I talked to my coach about a business plan.
I started doing it. One step at a time. One day at a time. Some days, ideas flowed easy and freely, others, they didn’t. Some days, I would make error after error and felt like I made no progress. Other days, I only made a couple errors and my progress showed. I was doing it!
I made a timeline to keep myself on track. I missed all my deadlines, but, I gave myself some grace and told myself how happy I was to be making progress. I become excited and would celebrate when I would achieve major goals like choosing a name or making my first page.
I know my website will change, I know my courses will get better, and, I am finally at the spot where I feel my coaching can begin!
If you find yourself suffering from self–doubt or self-confidence, do what I did:
- Come back to yourself, don’t look to others to decide what you want
- Figure out what is holding you back
- Give yourself some grace
- Visualize where you want to be–it gives you a goal
- Believe in yourself–use positive affirmations and positive self–talk
- Give yourself permission to make mistakes, cause there will be plenty
- Reach out for help (reach out to me, I would love to encourage you)
- Celebrate your victories along the way
