Attributes of People Who are Satisfied in Their Lives

I was spending time with a dear friend of mine recently and we were talking about attributes that we see most frequently in people who feel most satisfied in their lives. He thought it came down to three different ones. I thought there was a fourth one, so I added it. I want to share these with you to see if they can bring you some clarity and guidance for your life.

Before I go into what we discussed, I want to go into a little more detail about what I mean by people satisfied in their lives. I’m talking about those people who you see who just seem to have their ducks in a row. The ones who don’t seem to worry about much. When they get stressed, they might be off a bit, but they aren’t blowing a gasket. They are happy with their appearance and comfortable in their bodies. They seem to eat what they want and don’t worry about their weight. The people who don’t let their emotions overtake them. Do you know people like that? Those are the people I am talking about.

The first is to move your body frequently. You don’t have to do CrossFit or run a marathon, but find something active that you like to do and do it frequently. There are numerous studies and articles that you can find to support moving will improve your life. Go out for a walk after dinner, ride your bike with your kids, swim, or do some yoga. When you move, it increases your brain health, it keeps your body strong, improves your cardiovascular health, and can decrease risks of cancers and illnesses.

The second is to eat naturally, don’t diet. Eat real foods as much as possible. Real foods are ones that aren’t processed and have a ton of ingredients in them. Foods like fruits and veggies, eggs, beans, nuts, meats, and fish. If your food comes in a package, turn it over and read the ingredient list, do you know what they are?  Eat until you are full. Try not to overeat. Do you know when you are full? Not stuffed, but just full? It took me some time to figure that one out myself. Eating real foods and knowing the difference between eating when you are hungry and eating when you are bored can help to maintain a healthy weight for you.

The third attribute we think is necessary is meditation. You don’t have to sit cross legged for hours at a time, but find some way to shut off your brain. That might be walking outside daily, listening to some cool jazz, or watching cartoons. Whatever it is, just find a way to give yourself a break and turn off your brain. Like exercise, there are many studies to show you the benefits of meditation including being able to react to different things in a calmer manner, thus lowering stress.

For the final attribute, my addition is that you must have a willingness to learn. I think if you have a willingness to learn you can overcome anything. None of us are perfect and if you can learn from our mistakes, you will get better. You might not ever be perfect, but you will be better.

So that’s it, those are my four attributes to find satisfaction in your life. What do you think? Can you get on board with this or do you think I am way off base? I would love to hear from you and your opinion. You can reach out to me on social media or at Steph@KoruLifeCoaching.com. Also, reach out to me if I can help you develop these habits for yourself.
